How long before you can turn an overdue account to collections?

We're a small business, and we have an account that is 60+ days past due. Legally, how long do we have to wait before we are allowed to turn this account over to a collection agenct for payment? Knowledgeable answers only, please.
How long before you can turn an overdue account to collections?
Basically, you set that amount of time when you agree to do business with someone. If you state clearly at the beginning that you expect payment within a certain time, then they have to pay by then. It is best to state outright when you expect payment, and what you policy is regarding late payments and penalties(including collections). That way, you have a signed agreement between you and your customer as to the terms, and can act accordingly. If you don't have that agreement, you must notify them in writing that they have until a certain date to pay you, or you will send the account to collections(usually 10-30 days after they receive your final notice). I hope this helps. Remember- as a business, you set your own terms, and are responsible for making your customers aware of what they are. Good luck!!! JBM
Reply:I'd say that it is best to be as soon as possible since the longer you wait, the less you will receive from the collection agency. There might be state laws governing that. I believe it is very safe to send three letters letting a person know of the payment with the first two stating the payment and one stating about collections. Of course, if the person tells you not to contact them, you either have to write it off or to sue them to obtain a judgment.

How do I prevent users on the guest account from downloading or changing the settings on XP?

I have a Business Center PC that a guest used and ruined. I plan to format the entire hard drive. How do I, as the Admin, prevent users on the guest account from downloading illegal items and changing settings? I want them to have limited web access and look at Office documents only. No games/facebook, changing computer settings. Thanks.

How soon can a company turn over your account to collections?

I received a medical bill from out of state and then less than 3 weeks later (19 days to be exact) I received a 'Second and Final Notice' saying that if not paid immediately it would be placed with an agency. 19 days doesn't seem like a lot of time before getting a collection agency threat - is this legal?
How soon can a company turn over your account to collections?
Yes. You may have gotten the bill only 19 days ago but when was the service provided? Typically medical services have a due at time of service.

Most medical facilities do not have staff to deal with past due accounts. They turn them over to collection agencies very quickly. You may still be able to negotiate with the medical facility as the debts probably were not sold to the collection agency but merely assigned to them for collection.

Best advice is that if its your bill, pay it.

My father is extremely afraid to verify his Paypal account for fear of fraudulent charges or whatnot. I need it to be verified in order to buy an item on Ebay. I just need some info on the benefits and minuses of verifying your Paypal account. Thanks!

Many businesses will not deal with you via Paypal if you don't have a verified shipping address.

How can an inmate open a real bank account?

Does anyone know of a bank that will allow a bank-by-mail account for a prison inmate? The prison will allow it but banks don't seem too thrilled. Thanks!
How can an inmate open a real bank account?
I dont think their is any law that says they cant but when my ex husband was in prison his mother opened the acct. and he sent her money to deposit for him. I dont think they should be allowed to when you are in prison you lose your rights to do anything.
Reply:no, all that I am aware of require you to be there in person to open the account. If you have a bank account before you go in, it would still be active if you keep enough money in it.

But you would not be allowed to have checks or write money out anyway.
Reply:I can't imagine why a convict would need a bank account, nor can I imagine why a bank would want a convict for a customer. But if the prison doesn't have a problem with it, try opening a joint account for you and the convict, with both names on the account.
